I think it was because I used straight rotted straw with no soil or compost.

Will give it another go this year.Lee the Permiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16386871024190298794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773406527508360942.post-70820997642233577612010-01-28T03:07:30.474-08:002010-01-28T03:07:30.474-08:00Thanks for the post, we will post your article &qu...Thanks for the post, we will post your article "Can plants grow without soil". Begin with one tire, filled with straw/woodchips/whatever and potatoes, and when the plants get 8-12 inches above the tire, put another tire on top with more organic matter. How much soil will you add as they grow -- another 6-12 inches by the end of the season? And how careful should you be with the lower leaves of the potato plant? I assume that you'll have to cover these with the soil you add, but do we want to clip the leaves and just leave the plant's stem intact, as you'd do when planting tomatoes?James Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12595167490080408922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773406527508360942.post-31909543966014718322009-04-27T22:06:00.000-07:002009-04-27T22:06:00.000-07:00wow. thanks. share it with others though!wow. thanks. share it with others though!Arinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05477610684005317197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773406527508360942.post-2287296725669453382009-04-27T19:30:00.000-07:002009-04-27T19:30:00.000-07:00This is one of the coolest, space-saving garden id...This is one of the coolest, space-saving garden ideas I've seen in a long time.
